The Village (2004)

December 17th, 2004

Absolutely lovely film. Plays on the themes of morality and innocence; has a somewhat unpredictable ending but I foresaw it from about 10 minutes in, not sure why, but I felt it coming.

The film is set in really beautiful surroundings and I’d love to know where it was done because it’s the sort of place you’d like to move to. Acting was good although Joaquin Phoenix played a somewhat funny role of a quiet guy hardly any emotion and not even a single smile, although that doesn’t mean that I thought his acting was bad, on the contrary it was very good. On the other hand the main actress (Bryce Dallas Howard) plays a wondefull role and really does bring the film to life; the film is really more about her than anyone else.

I’d recommend this to anyone, it has all those qualities that make a film good without too much thinking involved yet not so shallow that you can walk away and forget about it.
